DILUNG, April 1 (MExN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) appealed to all the Zeliangrongpui people to cast their vote in free and fair manner in the upcoming Parliamentary Election, 2024 in both Outer and Inner Parliamentary Constituencies of Manipur.
In a press communiqué, the Front also warned anti-social elements from indulging in activities which are undemocratic.
It also appealed to all organisations, individuals, or groups to “refrain from gun culture, torturing, intimidation, harassment, etc to the innocent voters in favour of any candidates.”
The Zeliangrongpui people have been facing countless bitter experiences in the past elections perpetrated by anti-social elements for their selfish interest, it maintained.
Such evil practices are like a cancer to the well-being of the society, it said, noting that it is high time to put an end to such imported evil culture of muscle power, money power through corrupted resources etc.”
The Churches, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) must also take moral responsibility and take pro-active measures to check such evil trends in the society as it is being seen in neighbouring state of Mizoram, it added It further cautioned that strict actions would be taken against those individuals or organisations indulging in malpractices during the election as it happened in the past in Zeliangrongpui inhabited areas.
“Candidates are also warned from indulging in illicit activities such as distribution of cash, intoxicants, etc in the run-up election,” it added.
The Chairman of the ZUF, S Kamson also advised to all the candidates of different political parties and independent candidates to sincerely work for the people that they represent once they are elected, the communiqué added. The ZUF also wished all eligible voters to exercise their franchise in a free and fair manner to elect their political representatives.
