Zunheboto discusses internal security action plan

A district-level meeting to discuss the formulation of an Action Plan under the State Internal Security Scheme (ISS) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Chamber, Zunheboto, on September 8. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, IAS, and attended by officials from various departments and security agencies.

The discussions focused on strengthening the district’s preparedness and coordinated response to emergencies and internal security situations. Officials reviewed preparedness for possible external attacks, major disasters, evacuation measures, availability of essential resources and the roles of different departments during emergencies.

The meeting also discussed the need for a reliable communication and information system that can provide quick access to essential information during crisis situations. The absence of air raid sirens in Zunheboto was also highlighted, with officials discussing the need to assess suitable warning and alert mechanisms for the district.

Participants further deliberated on law and order, emergency response and inter-departmental coordination. It was emphasised that the police would have the primary responsibility for maintaining law and order during the initial stages of an emergency, while other departments would support the response based on their respective responsibilities.

The meeting also discussed public communication and media protocols during emergencies. The importance of responsible dissemination of information, particularly in the face of misinformation and information warfare, was emphasised.

DC Raj stressed the need for a practical and comprehensive Action Plan rather than a plan limited to paper. He called for clearly defined responsibilities, adequate resources, effective communication mechanisms and coordination among departments and security agencies.
