A total of 3 quarantine centres with 170 beds have been prepared to receive returnees in Zunheboto town. In addition, there are also other centres in the subdivisions and the Lumami JNV School with the capacity of accommodating 160 persons.
In Zunheboto town, the centres are located at Zunheboto Government College, Government Higher Secondary School and the Town Hall. It was informed that the district administration and the District Task Force for COVID-19 are in the process of identifying more locations, should the need arise.
EAC James Renbi Kikon informed that that though there are no positive cases in Zunheboto so far, proper care is being taken in setting up the quarantine centres so that people living in the vicinity will not be endangered. The centres are also under the strict surveillance of police personnel, he added.
The EAC also shared that they have devised mechanisms for segregating solid and liquid waste in the quarantine centres and that daily disinfection is being carried out. The quarantined individuals are being provided with all basic necessities, potable drinking water, and separate toilets.
Presently, there are 22 individuals lodged in the centres and more are expected to arrive soon. Further, Kikon informed that meals are being provided by the churches under Zunheboto. Church volunteers not only prepare the food but also deliver it to the police personnel manning the gates, after which it is handed over to the attendants, he said, while adding that there are no chances of direct contact with the returnees.
