The ‘Padyatra’ or Unity March was organised by the Zunheboto District Administration to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31. The event, held under the theme “Sardar@150: Ek Bharat, Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” commenced from the Amiphoto AOC Junction, an official statement said.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Zunheboto Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, IAS, attended as the special guest described the event as a “celebration of unity, diversity, and patriotism.” He urged everyone to walk together in the spirit of brotherhood and to ensure that “the tricolour always rises high with pride.”
Following the inauguration, the Unity March, led by the special guest, commenced from Amiphoto AOC Junction at 7:00 a.m., making several stops along the route before culminating at the Multi-Purpose Hall for the valedictory programme. The march featured performances at various locations.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Chinglem Konyak, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Zunheboto. A special song was performed by Nikovino Rotokha, along with performances by students from Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Woodland Higher Secondary School, and Olympic Higher Secondary School.
Participants from various schools, youth clubs, and local organizations enthusiastically joined the Padyatra, waving flags and singing patriotic songs, reflecting a strong sense of national pride.
In his concluding address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the occasion symbolized the true essence of “unity in diversity.” He urged citizens to ensure that the national flag always flies high, representing pride, sacrifice, and national spirit.
Describing the event as a “festival of unity,” the DC highlighted the importance of cherishing togetherness, acknowledging the contributions of all participants, and remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters who paved the way for India’s independence. He noted that such celebrations rekindle patriotism and strengthen bonds among people from all walks of life.
The DC stated that “the beauty of our nation lies in its diversity — like the colours of a rainbow, each unique yet part of one whole.” Quoting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he reminded the gathering that true strength comes from standing together, regardless of one’s social or economic background.
He further added, “The administration is only the face; the real spirit comes from the people. Let us make this celebration more colourful and memorable, with the identity of India always first.”
Encouraging the youth, the DC remarked that being modern doesn’t mean forgetting one’s traditions. “As we progress, let us carry forward the spirit of unity and diversity — the essence of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as one family,” he said, expressing gratitude to all participants and performers who made the event vibrant and meaningful.
