The ongoing mela in Zunheboto is creating opportunities for unemployed youth and school dropouts by providing financial assistance and skill-building engagement.

The mela is being organised by Akuvu Brothers, a youth-driven organization established in January 2024 with the aim of promoting startups and entrepreneurship across Nagaland. The group was founded by young individuals from Phisami village, Zunheboto district, currently residing in Dimapur. Their mission is to empower unemployed youth throughout the state by creating volunteer opportunities and encouraging active community involvement. The Akuvu Brothers currently has more than 60 members.

Members of the organization shared that the initiative was first launched in Dimapur during the Christmas season. It later expanded to Wokha district, and is now being held in Zunheboto.

The Zunheboto mela began on June 19 and will continue for one month, concluding on July 19. During this period, various youth organizations from Old Town are assisting with volunteer work. More than 30 Sumi school dropouts and unemployed youth have been engaged and are receiving financial support through their participation.

Additionally, non-local participants primarily from Assam are contributing to the event, bringing the total number of workers currently stationed at the mela to 49.

One member of the organizing team mentioned that they have made efforts to place at least one or two local Naga youth at each stall to assist and gain experience.
