Zunheboto, November 18 (MExN): Zunheboto District has observed World Diabetes Day under the theme "The Family and Diabetes – diabetes concerns every family” on November 14 at GPS, Old Town Zunheboto.
Dr C W Tungoe, CMO Zunheboto in his keynote address exhorted the participants to adopt healthy lifestyles, proper diet, regular exercises and encourage the participants to go for regular blood sugar checkups. He also explained that the main objective of Observance of World Diabetes Day was to create awareness among the community about the causes and adverse/ side effects of Diabetes and also to aware the general public about the availability of facilities in Health units.
He explained that people die not because of diabetes but through diabetes complications as diabetes damages the main vital organs of human body and ultimately diabetic patient succumbs to multiple organ failure. 80% of developing diabetes can be prevented by regular exercise, control of food habits, avoiding stress and living healthy, he added.
Free IEC Materials were distributed during the event and the programme was chaired by Shekho Sophie, Media Officer. A free screening was conducted and a total of 91 persons were screened for blood sugar, a press note from CMO Zunheboto informed.
