
Zunheboto, September 27 (MExN): World Tourism Day was observed at Zunheboto district on September 27 at Cultural Hall Zunheboto with Advisor Tourism, Art & Culture, H. Khehovi Yepthomi as the guest speaker.
Addressing the occasion, the Advisor said that World Tourism Day is an opportunity to foster awareness on the actual potential and contribution of tourism towards sustainable development.
The Advisor said that the idea of this year's World Tourism Day (WTD) is to help explore the opportunities provided to tourism, by technological advances. He also said, “tourism sector that is advanced digitally can provide major scope by improving entrepreneurship, local community empowerment, efficient resource management and inclusion if utilized in the right manner, keeping in mind other significant development goals. The improvement on technology has increased, the modern internet allows tourist quick and easy access to information such as travel destinations lodging and dining options at any destination.”
“Nagaland needs to catch up with the rest of the world in terms of making judicious use of the advantages that the digital world is providing us,” the Advisor said and pointed out, “We have so much potential in the tourism sector with our beautiful landscapes, rich culture, traditions if only we can tap into it.”
“There is so much more to tourism than just seeing a beautiful place, it is also about the food, language, culture, the people, it is an overall experience of the place and the communities that live there globalization and digital transformations are giving us such a stage where we can put ourselves in the world map, to be heard, seen and acknowledged,” he added.
The Advisor said that this is also a chance to involve a wide variety of people from all over the world to our culture and people, to bring back our traditions and histories, go back to our roots in the process of letting the tourists experience them.
Keynote address was delivered by Secretary Tourism, T. Mhabemo Yanthan. Short speeches were given by Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Nagaland Tourism Association and Hoteliers & Restaurant Union Kohima. Cultural performance was presented by Yemishe Village Cultural Troupe.
