Zunheboto: Red Run Marathon promotes HIV awareness among youth

As part of the annual youth fest campaign under the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), in collaboration with DISHA Zunheboto, organised the District Level Red Run (Marathon Race) on July 30 to raise awareness about HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among the youth.

The event was chaired by Toli, counsellor at the OST Center, District Hospital Zunheboto, with invocation prayer led by Kalito. The marathon was flagged off at 5:00 am by Dr Antoly Swu, Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Dy CMO), from Police Reserve Colony and concluded at Lizu Naghuto.

A total of 88 participants, aged between 17 and 25, competed under both male and female categories, showcasing strong enthusiasm and community spirit.

During the flag-off, Dr Antoly Swu emphasized the purpose of the events which includes creating awareness, promoting healthy living and to show solidarity.  

She further stated that HIV and AIDS are infected through HIV positive pregnant mother to her baby if proper treatment and medicines are not taken, through blood transfusion, contaminated needles and unprotected sex. "If we know how it is infected then we will know how to prevent such, it is good to know our status, testing are available even in our hospital".

Results
•     Male Category 1st: Kavi N Yeptho (Zunheboto Government College); 2nd: Aputo Zhim, 3rd: Pukivi Yeptho

•     Female Category: 1st: Bovitoli G Assumi (Zunheboto Government College), 2nd: Kinokali Awomi (Cornerstone Higher Secondary School), 3rd: Hilina G Assumi (Zunheboto Government College)

The Red Run was a key initiative under NSACS’ broader efforts to promote preventive healthcare, reduce stigma around HIV, and empower young people to make informed and responsible choices.

The DISHA Zunheboto while delivering vote of thanks thanked the Zunheboto Police department lead by Dr Kupe Kapfo, NPS, SP Zunheboto, SDPO for their assistance in the event and Lizu Nagahuto for volunteering in the events and all the stakeholders during the events.

A total of 148 took part in the event including Police personal and Medical team.
