Zunheboto Town Council launches initiatives to combat syndicate system

ZUNHEBOTO, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) chairperson Herato Sukhalu, has announced significant initiatives aimed at eradicating the syndicate system and improving local economic conditions. During a recent address, Sukhalu revealed that the council's efforts have already led to a reduction in egg prices from Rs 230-240 to Rs 210, marking the first step towards controlling market rates.

Sukhalu emphasized the need for systemic change to benefit the public and pledged that the ZTC will address other syndicate systems in the town. “To bring change, we must change the system,” he stated, highlighting the council’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing for consumers.

To support local businesses, the council plans to encourage educated unemployed youth to engage in entrepreneurship, stressing that success takes time and perseverance. "We want to give youth a chance in business, as there are limited options available," he noted.
Regarding waste management, the ZTC is collaborating with the PHED Department to enhance the town's cleanliness. However, the council faces challenges, including a shortage of vehicles for waste collection. Currently, only two vehicles are functional, and repairs are underway for two others.

Sukhalu also addressed taxi drivers' concerns about fare concessions for students, proposing a reduced fee from Rs 30 to Rs 20. He urged the relevant departments to improve road conditions, particularly near the North Point Colony, which is vital for students attending the Government College and also the major Deputy Commissioner’s office which is currently under construction.

On the issue of single-use plastics, he clarified that the temporary relaxation until October 31 allows vendors to sell existing stock but emphasized that no new stock should enter the town after this date. He reiterated the need for strict monitoring post-relaxation.
Furthermore, the chairperson condemned the irresponsible ownership of domestic animals that contribute to littering and announced the formation of a committee to address this concern.

As part of the council's revenue-raising strategies, parking taxes will soon be implemented in the coming months, with proposed rates of Rs 10 for two-wheelers, Rs 20 for light vehicles, and Rs 50-100 for heavy vehicles, which will be required to park outside the town area.
In preparation for the upcoming Christmas festival, Sukhalu announced plans to decorate the town by November 15, aiming to celebrate the holiday spirit and enhance community engagement.
