ZYF takes stock of earthquake

Imphal, January 6 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has informed that it is conducting independent enquiry and gathering detailed information on the degree of damages caused to residential building, houses, granaries, properties loss, Churches, Govt. offices and quarters, etc in Tamenglong District and other Zeliangrong villages in different districts by the powerful earthquake which shook the region on January 4.   In a press release, ZYF informed that a team led by its President had toured the National Highway No. 37 from Imphal up to Nungba HQ on January 4 to take stock of the situation and to ascertain and collect detailed information on the sufferings of the people caused by the incident.   While stating that it is coordinating with its different zonal offices to get detailed information from all the villages and far flung areas of the district, ZYF lamented that the poor connectivity and ineffective communication system has hampered immediate gathering of detailed information.

  According to the ZYF, the information gathered has so far revealed injury to four persons while over a hundred houses, churches, offices, SDPO quarter at Nungba HQ and structures of both private and government were damaged.   The newly constructed market shed at Nungba HQ, newly constructed and inaugurated Mini Secretariat, newly constructed hospital at Tamenglong HQ, and Guest House at Khongshang, about 50 ft on NH No. 37 below the Police Station diversion just before reaching Nungba bazaar, were found to have developed cracks during their physical inspection, ZYF stated.   In this regard, the Zeliangrong Youth Front has urged the concern authority and the Central Government to assess and collect detailed information on the degree of damages suffered and do the needful at the earliest. It also urged the concern authority to reach out to all the affected families of the district.   Meanwhile, ZYF has also extended deep condolences to the eight persons who lost their precious lives and stated that it shares the grief with the bereaved families. ZYF also extended prayers for speedy recovery of all the injured persons.
