Be job creators than job hunters: Nagaland Governor

Nagaland Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi challenged the NIT graduates to be job creators than job hunters.  “I would like to charge upon all graduates… to be job creators in your own area of expertise rather than job hunters,” said Prof Mukhi, addressing the 4th Convocation of NIT, Nagaland, at Chümoukedima, on January 23. 

The convocation for B Tech, M Tech, MSc, BSMS and PhD spanning the Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022 saw the handing away of 44 doctoral, 76 postgraduate and 102 graduation degrees.

Terming the degree as a culmination of hard work, he said that it will give shape and form to all the experiments and study projects. However, he reminded that the degree should be treated as the end of education but as a catalyst for further pursuits of knowledge.

According to him, opportunities to serve people are everywhere wherein “lies the secret of an enterprising mind to bring solution to the people.” “In your case, it is technological solutions to the most unlikely or remotely connected issues of community activity and living,” he added.   

While stating that the time is ripe for the graduates of the NIT to give back to the society, he said, “Let no geographical demarcation limit your career and life as you walk out of this auditorium today. Let the globe be your own playground.” 
He added that technological advancement can streamline the urban-rural developmental divide. For this to happen, he said that the task of the NIT, Nagaland is making technology relevant in the remotest of communities. 

NIT, Nagaland currently offers 6 programmes in B Tech, 4 in M Tech, M Sc in Physics and PhD programmes. Director, NIT, Nagaland, Dr S Venugopal informed that the institute has produced 56 PhDs, while 214 are pursuing PhD in Engineering, Science, Humanities and other interdisciplinary programmes in line with the New Education Policy 2020.

While informing that NIT Nagaland has organized 70 National Level Workshops for development of Quality Education in NE and one International Conference in the area of Nanomaterials, he said that it also with the University of Tokyo for student exchange programme. “The institute has established three Centers of Excellence with leading industries such as National Instruments, Siemens and Intel Altera VLSI for pursuing advanced research studies. The Central Library has a total collection of over 9500 titles including 2500-plus e-books as well as 700-plus e-journals,” he said.
