Fire guts eight shops in Chumukedima

  Morung Express News Dimapur | October 18   A major fire gutted several shops at Chumukedima early Tuesday morning. The fire which broke out at around 1:30 am burnt down at least eight shops at a market place situated near the Chumukedima 2nd gate along NH-29.   Personnel from the Fire Station, Chumukedima who were in action during the incident said they received information of the fire at around 1:45am. Two fire engines from the fire station in Chumukedima and another two from Dimapur fire station were pressed into service to control the inferno.   It took more than two hours to control the fire, personnel from the fire department informed. No human casualties were reported during the incident. However, properties worth one crore is estimated to have been destroyed in the fire, according to the fire department. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
