IndiGo Airlines is all set to start operation from Mizoram on Saturday to cope with rising demands for flights in the state, an official said on Friday.
Principal Consultant for Civil Aviation, Wing Commander J. Lalhmingliana said that Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga will flag off the IndiGo flight from Lengpui Airport at 12:30 pm on Saturday. He also said that this is the third flight after Air India and Go Air to be operated from the state.
Mizoram has been facing inconveniences with the withdrawal of operation by Jet Airways in February last year, which prompted the state government to seek helps from the Centre for better air connectivity.
Lalhmingliana said that four officials from IndiGo airlines, including its vice president and eastern region head Vijay Matta will attend the inaugural programme, besides important officials of the state government. He further said that IndiGo airlines will be operating on the Guwahati-Aizawl-Agartala sector daily at the initial stage. The airlines also planned to introduce Airbus-320 operation on Delhi-Aizawl route in the near future, he further said. The move is to improve the overall connectivity of the state with the mainland India, he added.
According to the officials, the IndiGo airlines has fixed rate at Rs 2,248 for Guwahati to Aizawl sector, Rs 3,632 for Aizawl to Guwahati sector, Rs 1,251 for Agartala to Aizawl sector.
Mizoram has been deprived of direct airlink with Delhi since February last year following the withdrawal of operation by Jet Airways.
Lalhmingliana said that efforts are on to have direct airlink with the national capital.
At present the state has air services on the Aizawl-Kolkata-Imphal route operated by Air India and Aizawl-Kolkata-Guwahati route operated by Go Air.
