Legal Literacy Club GHSS Wokha visit District jail

Wokha, February 25 (MExN): Legal Literacy Club, Government Higher Secondary School Wokha visited the District Jail and conducted legal awareness programme as part of its annual activities on February 24.  

Deputy Superintendent of District Jail, Yanrenthung Kikon welcomed the Legal Literacy Club (LLC) members and the programme officials and expressed gratefulness for paying a visit and spreading legal awareness to the inmates. He encouraged all the LLC members to take up such initiatives as it benefits the society.  

Resource person, Superintendent of Observation Home Wokha speaking on Prisoners Rights enlightened the inmates giving special references to the Indian Constitution that actually empowers the inmates to get access to the fundamental Rights specially of Article 14, 19 & 21.  

Prisoners, he said, could not enjoy full fundamental rights but that does not cease certain rights guaranteed to them by just being a human. He touched on the rights to cruel and unjust punishment, right to voice out if they are discriminated and right to free legal aid. He concluded by asking the prisoners to table any grievances to the concerned officials and the court if any.  

LLC Teacher in Charge, Mharoni motivated the inmates to change one’s habits and live a life of dignity. She emphasised on the techniques to transform the old lives and lead a meaningful one.  

The programme was chaired by LLC Member Mercy Khuvung, invocation by LLC Enibemo Kikon and experience sharing by LLC Hachio. Vote of thanks was delivered by LLC Libeni Ezung.  

Altogether 58 people participated in the programme.
