Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023 officially notified

Kohima/New Delhi, January 31 (MExN): The election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly scheduled on February 27 was officially notified on January 31 with publication of the official Gazette.

The Governor of the State of Nagaland, by a notification issued under sub-Section (2) of Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), has called upon all of the Assembly Constituencies in Nagaland, to elect members to the NLA, in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder, stated the gazette issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

As per the gazette, the last date for making nominations is February 7, to be followed by their scrutiny on February 8. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is February 10.

The election process shall be completed by March 4, it added. 

The hours of voting on polling day on February 7 is fixed from 7AM-4PM. 

Meanwhile, in accordance with the provisions of clause (1) of Article 172 of the Constitution of India, the existing Legislative Assembly of Nagaland, unless sooner dissolved, shall continue up to and including the March 12, and  thereafter shall stand dissolved on the expiration of its duration, informed the State Chief Secretary in another official gazette. 

Accordingly, the Governor of the State of Nagaland has called upon all the ACs in the State, to elect new members to the NLA, it added. 

No nomination on first day 
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has informed that no nomination has been received for any constituencies in the state for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election which is scheduled for February 27. A press release from the CEO’s Media Cell stated that while notice of election for all 60 Assembly Constituencies in Nagaland has been issued by respective Returning Officers on January 31, no nominations were received on the first day.
