Nagaland: Wokha district football tourney begins

WOKHA, AUGUST 6 (MExN): Chukitong Club, Wozhuro FC and Fanatic Football Club (Nsuyu Village) registered their first wins on the opening day of the first district football competition running trophy organized by 28 Assam Rifles, Shoorveer BN under the aegis of 5 Sector Kohima got started on August 6 at Local Ground, Wokha.  

Declaring the match open BN 2/I C, Bachchu Singh encouraged the players to exhibit their talents in the spirit of true sportsmanship. He also mentioned that out of this tournament, players will be selected to represent the district during the forthcoming Nagaland Football tournament in memory of Captain (Late) Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra, which is scheduled to be held in the month of September.  

General Secretary, Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), Zuben, while giving a short speech during the inaugural function thanked the Commandant 28 Assam Rifles, Col. Hiren Borah for giving opportunity and platform to the young players to show case their talents in sports especially football. He urged the players to be sincere and maintain good discipline and encouraged them to give their best. He said it is an opportunity for them to exhibit their talents in order play even at the national and international level.  

NB/SUB Vinod Sharma administered the Oath taking ceremony before the match while Captain, Dr.Satya Praksh also attended the opening ceremony. Altogether, 30 teams are vying for the championship.  

The winner of the competition will walk away with a cash award of Rs.25,000 and the runner-up will get a cash prize of Rs.15,000 along with running trophy, medals and certificates. Two individual prizes such as Golden Boot and Golden Glove will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.2,500 each.
