Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur has been selected as the implementing agency for skilling and providing job placement to the unemployed youth of North Eastern States (Nagaland & Arunachal Pradesh) under Capacity Building & Technical Assistance Scheme sponsored by Ministry of DoNER.

The inaugural programme for the first batch of trainees was held at NTTC, Dimapur with Parliamentary Secretary for Industries & Commerce and NIDC, Amenba Yaden as the chief guest on Thursday.

Amenba pointed out that most of the skilled and unskilled labour works were done by outsiders and encouraged Naga youth to be employed in this sector as per their abilities.

He said the state government was not in a position to employ thousands of graduating students in the government sector and urged them to take up skill development courses for employability.

Amenba urged the trainees not to think that any training provided in Nagaland was inferior to other states but to sincerely learn the skills taught to them.

“Apart from earning livelihood through such skills, you should also strive to become responsible citizens,” he added. Delivering the keynote address, Principal NTTC Dimapur, Er. Petehetuo Miasalhou said that the Centre since its inception in 2006 has trained 3000 youths who are employed in various sectors both within and outside the State.

He informed that 500 students from different states including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Jharkhand were undergoing various trainings. He said NTTC Dimapur was selected as the implementing agency by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.   Additional Director, Industries & Commerce, Temsulong Jamir also addressed the gathering.

According to a handout provided by NTTC, 465 trainees from Nagaland and 310 trainees from Arunachal Pradesh would be trained in various courses under the Scheme. The Ministry of DoNER would sponsor all fees including trainings, food and boarding.

Referring to a study conducted in 2015 by the National Skill Development Corporation, the NTTC note stated that during the period 2014-22, Nagaland would face shortage of labour force in the semi skilled and skilled labour category. The imperative is therefore to impart skills to the population with target towards improving the income earnings of the State, the note added.

In this context, the NTTC stated it would be crucial for the State to skill the youths with basic schooling background in different trades such as construction and other allied sectors to meet the anticipated demands.
