Rio to take oath as Nagaland CM today

People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) leader Neiphiu Rio will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland on March 8.

This will be his fourth time as Chief Minister of Nagaland.  

Rio was elected unopposed on Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket from 11th Northern Angami-II Assembly Constituency in the general elections to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.  

He was the Chief Minister of Nagaland for three terms (2003–08, 2008–13 and 2013–14), making him the only Nagaland Chief Minister to have served three consecutive terms.  

Nagaland’s Governor PB Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Council of Ministers headed by Rio at the swearing-in ceremony on March 8 at 11:30 am at Khouchiezie (Kohima Local Ground).  

The swearing-in ceremony of the People’s Democratic Alliance, Government of Nagaland will be conducted in “open air,” which is the first of its kind in the history of Nagaland Legislative Assembly since the formation on February 11, 1964.  

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah will attend the ceremony.  

Source said that Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma will also be present at the swearing-in ceremony.
