School in Manipur looted during lockdown

Taking undue advantage of indefinite curfew, a government school was looted by unidentified person(s) in Manipur’s Imphal West district.

 

Besides stealing goods meant for mid-day-meal such as rice, cooking gas cylinders, cooking utensils and others, the miscreant(s) also ransacked the laboratory and teacher room of Takyel Khongbal High School under Lamphel police station of Imphal West district, reports said.

 

The looting and ransacking of the school came to light on Wednesday after some members of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) visited the school. They visited the school after some locals informed them.

 

DESAM members found teachers’ common room and laboratory found opened and ransacking the furniture and materials in the rooms. Equipments of the laboratory were also found missing, the reports said.  The kitchen of the mid-day-meal was also looted by breaking the mud wall.

 

Quoting local people, a member of the DESAM alleged that the looting incident allegedly took place on April 5 and the miscreants had looted the school taking advantage of absent of caretaker (chawkidar) of the school owing to the curfew imposed by the state government.
