The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has on Monday served a notice to Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen after its insecticide team found mosquito breeding spots in her house at Khar (west). As part of its drive to locate the possible breeding grounds of Aedes Aegypti – the mosquito that breeds in fresh water and is a known carrier for dengue - the BMC has been checking various high rises in the city. Upon inspection of the premises, the civic insecticide control officer found three mosquito breeding spots on the terrace and galleries of the actor’s apartment Satguru Sundari. “The actor was given a notice under section 381-B of Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, for not taking measures to prevent mosquito breeding,” said Rajan Naringerekar, BMC’s insecticide control officer. Earlier this month, actor Shahid Kapoor was issued a notice by BMC officials after a mosquito breeding ground was found inside his swimming pool at Praneta apartments in Juhu. The civic body also inspected, Yashodhan, the building that houses bureaucrats in Colaba, last week. The officials had checked 42 apartments and 42 servant quarters in the building and found mosquito breeding spots at the residence of five bureaucrats. The bureaucrats were, however, exempted from being served any notice. The intermittent showers have left pools of stagnant water in several areas of the city. This, coupled with rise in temperature, has led to increase in the cases of dengue. Last year, the BMC had served notices to the Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and singer Amit Kishore Ganguli for not taking steps to prevent mosquito breeding within their premises. When HT contacted Sen’s manager, she refused to comment on the issue and said that the actor is travelling and is not available for comment.
