TR Zeliang accuses Rio of playing ‘dirty games’

Jalukie, February 24 (MExN): Chief Minister TR Zeliang today accused the NDPP chief ministerial candidate, Neiphiu Rio of playing “dirty games” in State politics.

Addressing election rallies in Jalukie and Ahthibung under Peren district, Zeliang further alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi knew “it was Rio who tried to destroy BJP in Nagaland when Congress was in power.”

According to a press release from NPF Press & Media Cell, the CM said Rio had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi which read, “I have finished BJP in Nagaland.” This letter is still in the hand of Modi, Zeliang claimed.

He further accused Rio of landing the State with Rs. 1234 deficit. The CM maintained that political crisis started in the State when the NDPP chief ministerial candidate “attempted to become a union minister but failed and tried to return to state politics.”

Zeliang cautioned the voters to wisely vote for candidates after knowing fully which political party will safeguard the interests of the Nagas. It is the NPF that stood for Naga political solution since its inception in 1963, he added.

“In Nagaland, whatever decision is taken by regional party NPF, it is final and nobody can impose anything on it. However, unlike regional party, state units of national parties like BJP cannot take decision on their own as their high commands in Delhi exercise authority over them,” the CM was quoted as saying.

He expressed hope that NPF will form government again with majority votes, adding doors are open for coalition with willing parties. Informing that NPP which is fielding 25 candidates has signed an agreement with NPF for coalition, the CM said, “Other secular parties including independents will also follow suit.”

He appealed to the electorates to vote in favour of the “longest surviving regional party”, NPF, which he said protects the interests of the Nagas.
