DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): Nagaland lost to Assam today in the Vijay Hazare Trophy season 2019-20 by 70 runs. 


Nagaland finally got to play the first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the season 2019-20 after earlier matches versus Manipur, Sikkim and Meghalaya were abandoned due to rain.


Nagaland won the toss and elected to field first, managing to restrict Assam to 207 runs bowling them out in 47.4 overs.  


Abu Nechim (31 runs), Rahul Hazarika (29 runs), and Roshan Alam (28 runs) were the top scorers for Assam in the first innings. For Nagaland, Nagaho was the highest wicket taker with 5 scalps, followed by Hokaito with 2 wickets, and 1 wicket each for SS Mundhe and Tahmeed. 


Nagaland however showed a poor display in their response, managing to score only 137 runs in the 2nd Innings before being bowled out in 41.4 overs.  


Captain Jonathan Rongsen was the top scorer for Nagaland with 46 runs, followed by YV Takawale with 21 runs, and SS Mundhe with 16 runs.


For Assam meanwhile, Pritam Das was the highest wicket taker (5), along with Riyan Parag (2 wickets).
