MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso today announced that a community-based initiative titled the ‘1 Rupee Project for Change’ will soon be launched in Kohima.

Conceived and initiated by Dr Ato himself, the project seeks the voluntary support of citizens to contribute Rs 1 a day towards community-oriented development projects in the capital. Contributions can be made as a lump sum—Rs 30 for a month or Rs 365 for a year.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of an Outdoor Fitness Gym at Officers’ Hill along Raj Bhavan Road in Kohima on May 7.

Aiming to foster a culture of civic responsibility and shared investment in development, particularly among urban residents, Dr Ato stressed that people should not depend solely on the government. “It is time we contribute,” he said. “This project is about people coming together, giving back, and building a better Kohima through collective effort. Let us contribute—it will bring great change.”

Dr Ato, who represents the 9th Kohima Town A/C, stated that funds generated through the ‘1 Rupee Project for Change’ will be used for maintenance of footpaths, drainage, sanitation, road repairs, and other essential public needs in Kohima.

He further informed that the project will be operated under a dedicated bank account, the details of which will be shared with the public soon. He appealed for the active participation of the community to ensure the success of the initiative.
