
Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has arrested 10 people on October 16 and 19 in relation to vehicle lifting after series of investigations. It has been informed that the police in its effort to crackdown on theft of vehicles and recovery of stolen vehicles had registered in different police stations in the district. It has recovered one Bolero, the engine and chassis number of which was found tampered and bearing R/No NL03/4723 which is suspected to be fake registration.
One of the accused identified as Rahul Chetri (31 years) S/o late RK Chetri of Nepali Bosti Dimapur is reportedly a ‘tatar’ in GPRN/NSCN. A.32 pistol was found in his possession. The other arrested are identified as Nzanthung Ngullie (31) S/o Yambothung Ngullie of Tsori village and residing at Sewak colony, Dimapur; Mhonchan Ranthan (25) S/o Thungchamo of Lotsu village and residing at Duncan basti Dimapur; Lohru Mao (27) S/o Loli Mao of Makhel village, Tadubi, Manipur and residing at Half Nagarjan, Mao Colony Dimapur; Lokhomao(24) S/o Daiho Mao of Shajuba village residing at 6th Mile Dimapur; Suresh Pradhan (33) S/o late Narayan Pradhan of Borlengri Dimapur; Showalo Kemp aka Romeo (30) S/o Dapalo Kemp of Phensunyu village and residing at Nepali Bosti Dimapur; Netra Chetri (24) S/o late bhi5r Chetri, Duncan Basti Dimapur; Amar Das (24) S/o late Noni Das Sewak Colony Dimapur and Nishar Khan aka Munna (25) S/o Late N Khan of Mumbai West residing at MST Colony Dimapur, stated a press statement issued by the Additional Superintendent of Police Dimapur.
Also, the statement said that the accused are involved in several cases of vehicle lifting in the State and also wanted by Meghalaya Police and West Bengal Police in connection with vehicle theft cases. A joint interrogation of the accused was conducted during which the accused revealed that several vehicles lifted by the gang from Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha during the last couple of years. The stolen vehicles were mostly taken to Senapati and Imphal and sold off to customers. The profits from the sale were shared among the gang members. Some of the accused were also involved in smuggling of Arms and contraband ganja from Manipur and were arrested earlier by Dimapur Police in connection with smuggling and arms cases.
A case was registered against the accused under East Police Station Dimapur U/S 379/ 465/ 467/ 120 B PIC R/W 7/8 NSR and the accused have been forwarded to court and remanded to custody for further investigation into the case.
