100% Results, 0% Maths Teacher

GHS Sakraba posts 100% results two years in a row, but has no Math teacher

DIMAPUR, APRIL 28 (MExN): Government High School Sakraba in Phek district, which achieved a rare 100% pass result in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations for two consecutive years, 2024 and 2025, is now grappling with a critical shortage: it has no Mathematics teacher.

When the Department of School Education undertook the rationalization of Graduate Teachers in February 2025, "the school was left with no Maths teacher, as it was the case with many government schools in Nagaland," the Sakraba Students’ Union said in a statement. The removal sparked widespread protests from student bodies and organizations across the state, leading the government to withhold the rationalization order and call for grievances to be submitted through respective District Education Officers (DEOs) and Sub-Divisional Education Officers (SDEOs).

The Sakraba Students’ Union submitted a request for a Mathematics teacher reliever "at the earliest," but said, "there has been no action from the department so far."

"We are appalled at the apathy and casual attitude of the government," the union said. With nearly four months of the academic year already gone, it made an "earnest appeal to the department to send a Maths teacher reliever immediately so that the education of the students are not put in peril."
