Dimapur | May 31
The power scenario in Dimapur will likely stabilise in a few months time. A brand new 100Mva (132/33Kva) electricity transformer has reached Dimapur, which is expected to greatly ease supply (transmission and distribution) constraints at the Nagarjan sub-station.
The machine reached Dimapur on May 31 after almost a 3-month long road journey from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Officials of the Department of Power Nagaland (DoPN) informed that installing the new machine will take some time but once in circuit it will provide greater supply stability and ease of maintenance.
The need for a 100Mva transformer of 132/33Kva rating was urgently felt after a fire charred a 20Mva (66/33Kva) transformer at the Nagarjan sub-station in November 2017. Barely a week later, another of the same load capacity went kaput leaving only one to manage supply.
Before this, supply to in and around Dimapur was being shouldered by three 20Mva (66/33Kva) transformers fed by a lone 100Mva (132/66Kva) transformer. The department had made make-shift arrangements to make up for the two losses.
According to department officials, the installation of the new 100Mva (132/33Kva) will do away with the existing system of having three smaller capacity transformers. It would not only occupy lesser land area, cut maintenance and operations costs but also provide transmission/distribution stability.
The new transformer will directly supply 33/11Kva sub-stations, while the existing 100Mva (132/66Kva) transformer will feed 66/33Kva sub-stations.
