Mon, April 28 (MExN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 100W FM transmitters at Mon and Tuensang districts in Nagaland along with other 91 new 100W FM from New Delhi on April 28.

Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak graced the occasion at Mon as the guest of honour, stated a DIPR report. 

She said it was a great privilege to be a part of Mon district coming to a net of information. On behalf of Mon district, she thanked the AIR for introducing it. ‘It is the vision of the Prime Minister that no one should be left out even in such a far-flung area like Mon. In this digital world, information is a very powerful weapon that one cannot do anything without. Radio is one of the cheapest, most affordable means of communication where one can get accurate news,’ she stated. 

Phangnon added that this is a platform where one can contribute and also learn. She urged the citizens of Mon to lend their cooperation, so in the future a proper station will be set up to cover the whole district.

KK Rengma, DDG (E) / Cluster Head in the welcome address acknowledged the retired staff of AIR Mon who had lent their time. Lemjan Phom, Programme Executive, AIR Kohima delivered the vote of thanks. 

In Tuensang, the virtual inauguration of the 100W FM Transmitter was held at FM Tuensang Station. 

Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang Nokchasashi NCS said that opening the FM Station at Tuensang would greatly benefit the people of the area, as people rely on the radio for their communication, to get information and news. 

Mentioning the importance of Radio in the history of freedom struggle and nation building not only in giving information, entertaining but educating the mass, the DC acknowledged that Radio hosts a special place in the hearts of millions of Indians to this day. 

The FM Station would transmit information about locally relevant programmes, education, health, and social issues to the masses which can bring a significant change in the life of the people, he stated. 

Welcome address and vote of thanks were given by Rachel Shimray Hop and Temsula PEX respectively and invocation by Imsujungba, Pastor, Sangtam Baptist Church Tuensang.

During the event, a set of Radio was presented to individuals, unions and organisations.
