The weeklong 10th edition of Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament organized by Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department on the theme “Peace and unity through cricket” commenced today at Jakhama Local Ground.
Altogether, 12 teams from Nagaland and Assam are competing in the tournament, which will conclude on November 23.
Playing the inaugural match, defending champions Esa Warriors defeated Kohima Veterans by a huge 160 runs.
Kohima Veterans won the toss, elected to bowl while ESA Warriors scored 216 losing 6 wickets. Dibash scored 43 off 20 balls while Roshan score 101 off 48. Kohima Veterans b humchamo and Lanu took 2 wicket each. In reply, Kohima veterans were all out scoring just 56 runs.
Ritu of ESA Warrior took 3 wicket giving 3 run in 2 over while Hanilung took 2 wicket giving 14 runs in 4 over.
Roshan was adjudged man of the match for his 101 runs. Director of Rajya Sainik Board, Nagaland, Wing Commander Rajeev Dong graced the inaugural function chief guest.
In his address, Wing Commander said with the coming of T20 match, cricket has become a popular game world wide.
In this, he called upon the local players to take up the game seriously and work hard to move into higher level of tournaments.
He also lauded the organizers for providing a platform to the cricket players.
The champions and runners up of the tourney will receive cash award of Rs 80,000 and Rs 40,000 respective with trophies and citations. Losing semi-finalist will get Rs 5,000 each. Other individual prizes are: Player of the Tournament – Rs 5,000, Highest Wicket taker, Highest Run scorer & Best Wicket Keeper – Rs 3,000 each and Emerging Player – Rs 1000.
