Altogether, 11, 97, 436 electors will exercise their franchise for the forthcoming Lok Sabha bye election in Nagaland scheduled for May 28. T
okheho Yepthomi of NDPP as PDA candidate and C. Apok Jamir as NPF candidate are in the fray for this Lok Sabha bye election.
Out of 11, 97, 436 electors, male constitutes 6,07, 589 and female at 5, 89, 847, said Nagaland chief electoral officer Abhijit Sinha while addressing a press conference here.
Out of 2196 polling stations, 211 polling stations categorized as vulnerable and 260 as critical. The average number of electors per polling station stands 545.
About 500 polling stations will be covered with either web casting or videography fixed camera, he said.
He said around 4000 vehicles have been requisitioned for this election.
Around 20,000 polling personnel will be involved in the conduct of the polls, he said.
Regarding availability of EVMs and VVPATs for this election, it will include ballot unit at 3196, control unit- 3143 and VVPAT- 3075.
Sinha requested the citizens of Nagaland to come to the polling stations on May 28 and cast their votes.
He also asked the citizens to vote in ethical and informed manner and without any wrong grounds.
He hoped that election will be conducted freely and fairly.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Commissioner and Returning Officer, M Patton said that the overall law and order situation in the State is normal and congenial for the conduct of the polls.
“We have not received serious law and order issues,” he said.
Patton said that during the campaign period the RO’s office received complaints from both the parties (NDPP and NPF), however as required the matter has been forwarded to the police and investigations are in progress.
He also said that it has received complaint about the urban development minister giving assurance for monetary incentive for whom there is maximum percentage of voting in assembly sector.
He said a show cause notice was served to the minister and the minister denied the allegation.
Patton said another complaint received from NDDP is that at Dimpaur, NPF candidate had given Mithun to some community in Dimapur for distribution during this electioneering.
He said the matter was taken up through the Commissioner of Police Dimapur.
He also said that it has received complaint from NDPP and BJP of the alleged inflammatory speech of Dr.
Shurhozelie Liezietsu on May 15 and the matter was passed on to police.
He said police has registered the case and investigation is on. Another complaint also received from Meluri sector alleging that village council has decided to go in favour of one candidate only and not allow other party candidate.
“We have taken precautionary measure through Deputy Commissioner who is ARO Phek,” he said.
On show cause notices served to Nagaland University teachers with regard to election duty, he said after verification some found to be valid in which six of them have been exempted and other 10 reported for training.
