Eleven political parties have formed a new alliance called Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) to campaign against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The political parties said that they will "fight" until a clause for protection of indigenous people of Manipur and Northeast is INSERT IGNOREed on the CAB before introducing in the Rajya Sabha for passing.

Other political parties included in the alliance are Shiv Sena, Aam Adami Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress, People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), Manipur National Democratic Front (MNDF), North East India Development Party (NEIDP) and Manipur People’s Conference (MPC).

The constituents of the new alliance are parties that had recently met with Union Home minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi and submitted a memorandum pressing the Centre to INSERT IGNORE a safeguarding clause for the indigenous people of the region.

Announcing the formation of the new alliance at a news conference held at Hotel Imphal at North AOC in Imphal, representatives of the 11 political parties informed that the parties will launch a series of campaign against the passing of the Bill in its present form along with the people.

Taking part in the news conference, Shiva Sena Manipur unit president M Tombi said that they are waiting for the response of the Central leaders who they met during their camping in New Delhi. He also said that the delegation led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, through a memorandum, urged the Union Home minister to INSERT IGNORE a clause in the CAB before it is placed in the Rajya Sabha, so that there is adequate safeguard for protection of the indigenous people of the North East in general and Manipur in particular when the Bill becomes an Act.

Tombi then urged political parties to stop blaming and criticising each other over the issue to take political mileage. “It has created confusion among the people,” he alleged. He further urged all concerned to stop using "unparliamentary" languages against each other.

"If use of such abusive languages that hurt the sentiment of others continues, the 11 political parties will be compelled to file legal suits against them", he warned.
