Wokha | May 25 : The 12th edition of Kyong Martyrs’ Tournament kicked started today at Wokha local ground. The tournament is organized by Kyong Students’ Union (KSU), under the theme ‘Goal for Oneness’. Parliamentary Secretary for Industries & Commerce, Dr. KC Nihoshe Yepthomi graced the inaugural function as the chief guest.
Addressing the inaugural, Yepthomi said games & sports play a vital role in the life of a student. While winning and losing is part of game, but participation matters a lot which he said is also a natural course to develop human resource. “Until you complete your aim in studies, you have to develop your personality; ultimately it will bring success in your life”.
He said the Kyongs made the right decision by choosing the four sitting MLAs from the district, and added that good and sincere leaders are representing the district. Yepthomi added that Nagaland has a chief minister, who is kind enough to treat his colleagues, the opposition included, without bias. “We are united in our effort”, maintained Yepthomi and said this was demonstrated during the bye-election at Aolengden AC, adding that elected members are like a sheep following the master. He appealed the young generation of all the districts to work for a better tomorrow and facilitate development, develop jobs and to own enterprises of their own.
Earlier, president KSU, Subenthung Kithan in his welcome note refreshed the significance of the day. He recalled the fateful day of April 14, 1977 when two students were gunned down in a police firing, during a silent procession organized by the erstwhile Lotha Students’ Union. The students were protesting against the inhuman and barbaric act of the then SDO of Wokha. The president said the tournament is being organized in honor of the two students which strongly urged them (the union) to fight for rights and stand for justice. The tournament is being organised in honour of the two students who lost their lives that day. The Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, police and government officials, Kyong Hoho, other NGOs and students of various schools attended the function.
Altogether twenty-one teams are taking part in the tournament which will go on till June 5. Lumkhumchung Sporting Club registered the first win of the tournament by defeating Elite Comrades 6-0.
