Dimapur, November 3 (MExN): The Dimapur Police clamped down on a series of 'extortion' cases in the city recently. A press note issued by the Addl Dy Commissioner of Police on November 3 informed that one Athungbo Sangtam was apprenhed on October 21 for money from autorickshaw drivers. Two vehicle tax slips and one authorization letter of NSCN (K), ten demand slips in the name of NNC and cash amount of Rs. 210/- were seized from his possession. Accordingly a case has been registered in the East Police Station in this regard. The Dimapur Police on October 23 has arrested one Mughavito Kiba for issuing yearly tax slips to auto-rickshaw drivers in the name of NSCN (IM) at Murgi Patti Area, Dimapur. Tax slips of Truck Owners Association yearly tax, Auto-rickshaw Owners Syndicate yearly tax, Auto-rickshaw Owners Syndicate (big auto-rickshaw) yearly tax, Mobile handset, and cash amount of Rs 1390/- were seized from his possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at East Police Station. The Anti-Extortion Team (AET) of Dimapur Police apprehended one Golden Mura (38) for collecting illegal tax in the name of NSCN (R) at New Market area, Dimapur. An amount of Rs. 730/- from his possession and a case registered at East Police Station. In a separate incident, the Dimapur Police apprehended two persons namely Richard Talukdar and Jekiho Kinimi while extorting money from the auto-rickshaw drivers at Eros Lane Dimapur and recovered/seized cash amount of Rs 450/- from their possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at East Police Station. On October 30, two persons namely Gaizinglung Rongmei (40) and Lan Rongmei (30) while collecting money from the auto-rickshaw drivers in the name of NSCN (R) and three 03 Tax Slips were seized from their possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at East Police Station. In a different incident one Avinash Bahadur while collecting tax from business community in the name of NSCN IM and on conducting frisking/checking a cash amount of Rs.1390/-, one mobile handset and one chit containing the list of extorted collection details was recovered from his possession.In this connection a case has been registered at SBN Police Station. The AET apprehended three persons namely Khekato Kiba (40), Aboto Yepthomi (35), Thsardse Sangtam (25) while they were forcibly demanding yearly tax of NSCN (R) from Autorickshaw driver within town area. In this connection a case has been registered at East Police Station. On November 1, the Dimapur Police apprehended two persons namely Jacob Chizho (24) and Khekiho Achumi (25) while collecting tax on behalf of Dimapur Workers Trade Union and Dimapur Private Transport Association. 100 extortion slips of Dimapur Workers Trade Union, 100 of Dimapur Private Transport Association and cash of Rs. 2650/- were recovered from their possession. Accordingly, a case has been registered at East Police Station.
