1,315 JEE and 2,542 NEET aspirants from Nagaland

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): A total of 1,315 candidates from Nagaland registered for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2020 exams, while there are 2,542 aspirants for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (Undergraduate), according to an official release.

Amid the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns shared by parents, students, and political leaders, the Education Ministry and the National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to go ahead with JEE from September 1 after a recent Supreme Court verdict on the issue.

NTA, which conducts both the exams, is holding JEE Main Exams from September 1 to September 6, while NEET exams will be held on September 13.

According to a NTA release on August 25, the figure for Nagaland was slightly lower than last such exams. The State wise distribution of candidates and centres during JEE (Main) April/September 2020 and January 2020 for Nagaland stood at 1,315 and 1,364 respectively. It was not known how many turned up for the latest exam being held in 7 centres in the state.  For NEET (UG), it decreased from 2681 in 2019 to 2542 in 2020.

According to a report from Hindustan Times, around 80 to 85 % of the candidates took the JEE exam in the morning shift on September 1. “Overall attendance in the first shift was 84.09 %. It is estimated that the second shift also had 80 to 85% of candidates,” the report said quoting a “person aware of the developments.” The NTA, however, did not release any official figures, it added.
