144 CrPC imposed in parts of Wokha

Wokha, September 22 (MExN): Prohibitory orders under Section 144 and 141 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) were imposed in parts of Wokha town on Wednesday, amid apprehension and reports of intimations and clashes.

“There is apprehension and reports of intimations and clashes which are likely to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in certain localities and there is every reason to believe and apprehend that grave situation which may endanger human life and property as well as breach of public peace and tranquillity is likely to be created at any moment arising due to issue between the Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) and the three independent Churches and thereby creating Law and Order problem in certain areas of Wokha Town,” stated the order issued by District Magistrate Orenthung Lotha. The order will come into effect immediately and will remain in force for 7 days upto September 28, it added.

The prohibitory orders have been imposed in areas within 100 metres perimeter from the Office of The Deputy Commissioner, and within 100 metres perimeters of the Church, apartments, residential buildings under the jurisdiction of the 3 Lotha Baptist Churches at Saron Colony, Vungoju Colony and NST Colony of Wokha town.

Stating that the assembly of 5 or more people at one place would be declared as an “unlawful Assembly,” the District Magistrate also cautioned that carrying of any dangerous weapons like firearms, sticks, knives, spears, swords, and any other lethal weapons etc, is also prohibited.

“Anyone found contravening this order within the said location will be arrested and penalised according to the provision of the law,” the order stated.

Movement o Magistrates on duty, Police, Security Forces, and medical/health services are exempted from the order, it added.
