The 14th edition of the Lotha Football Championship, organised by Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), officially commenced with an opening ceremony at the Public Ground, Wokha on January 13. The event was graced by Yanrenthung Humtsoe, Chairman, MSMEPCI, Wokha District, and Chief Advisor, WDCCI, as the special guest.

This year, a total of 14 teams have registered for the tournament. A significant change in this edition is the introduction of a new rule allowing teams to field up to three guest players per match with a provision that enables talented players from outside the district to compete alongside local footballers.

In his address, Yanrenthung Humtsoe stressed that discipline begins with small actions and called upon the players to maintain integrity, perseverance, and commitment throughout the tournament. Additionally, Humtsoe touched upon the current absence of a parent sports association in the district, revealing that steps are being taken to revive the Wokha District Sports Association (WDSA) through consultation with other sports bodies in the region.

The opening match of the tournament saw an exciting clash between Nitsüyan and XI Brother Chukitong, which ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

In the second match, Mount Morashen Club (MMC) faced Lower Senjum (LS), with MMC emerging victorious by a commanding 5-1 scoreline. Despite LS taking a 1-0 lead in the first half, with a goal from Chichanthung in the 35th minute, MMC came back strongly after the break. Thejasetuo netted a hat-trick with goals in the 45th, 57th, and 70+ minutes, while Mhao Odyuo and Cheneren added a goal each in the 44th and 68th minutes, respectively.

The tournament winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 1, 50,000, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 1, 00,000. Additionally, each of the semi-finalist teams will be given Rs 25,000. Individual awards will also be presented to recognise exceptional players throughout the competition.
