KOHIMA, MAY 14 (MExN): A 23-member team from the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), including 15 wrestlers, one referee and seven officials, will be part of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Belt Wrestling Alysh Championship to be held in New Delhi from May 21 to 26.
An intensive coaching camp for the NWA wrestlers is currently underway at the Multipurpose Hall “B” of IG Stadium, Kohima. The camp is expected to continue until the team departs for Delhi on May 19, the NWA said in a press statement issued by its Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho.
A brief dedicatory programme was also held at the camp on Tuesday, where Rev Vilakiezo Yano of the Angami Christian Revival Church Council (ACRCC) Mission Centre, Kohima, offered prayers and exhorted the wrestlers.
As many as 30 countries, including several from Europe and Africa, are expected to participate in the championship. The NWA said Naga style wrestling is expected to be introduced during the event and urged people to support the wrestlers through prayers. The NWA team will return on May 26 after the championship concludes.
