Chozuba, September 19 (MExN): As many as 153 cases, including rape and domestic violence, have been registered at the Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC) in Phek district, informed Menu-u Tsuhah, Centre Administrator, Sakhi OSC, Phek on September 18.
Speaking at an awareness and sensitisation programme on legal rights and protection for women and children in Chozuba, Tsuhah said the OSC provides facilities such as counselling, free shelter for up to 20 days as and when needed, monetary assistance to victims and video conferencing for consultation.
She appealed to the gathering to avail the services whenever required.
The programme, held under the aegis of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, was organised by the District Administration Phek under Mission Shakti in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at Vamuzo Memorial Town Hall, stated a DIPR report.
In her keynote address, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chozuba, Zapuno Khatso said the awareness programme aimed to promote a safe and peaceful society and create a secure environment for children and women.
Vileno K Thisa, District Mission Coordinator of DHEW, highlighted the schemes and programme components for women under Mission Shakti, stating that the mission has made a large impact on society since its inception. She stressed the need for strict adherence to guidelines concerning the protection of children and women, cautioning that ignorance of the provisions could lead to serious consequences, and informed that the mission provides 24x7 services.
Sekhotso Rokha, Retainer Lawyer of Phek DLSA, delivered a lecture on the provisions of the POCSO Act. He spoke on the availability of free legal services for children and women, as well as eligible persons with an annual income below Rs 1,00,000. He informed that 28 cases had been registered in the district during the current year, of which 15 were POCSO cases.
Dr Cthitu Nienu, NCS Extra Assistant Commissioner, chaired the programme and gave the closing remarks. Leaders from various villages and frontier organisations attended the event.
