The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Thiruvananthapuram, organised a training programme on “Improved Production Technologies of Tuber Crops” at VDB hall, Wokha, on September 19.
The programme brought together agricultural stakeholders for technical sessions focusing on improved production practices, crop protection and management of major pests and diseases affecting tropical tuber crops.
The programme was chaired by Megokhono Meyase, CTO (Horticulture), ICAR-KVK Wokha, while R Lichumo Murry, District Project Officer (DPO), LRD, Wokha, attended as the special guest.
Delivering the highlight of the training programme, Dr VS Santhosh Mithra, Scientist-In-Charge, Extension and Social Sciences and Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI, provided an overview of the programme and its technical focus.
Dr N Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c), ICAR-KVK Wokha, and Lotsomo Yanthan, General Secretary, delivered short speeches, followed by an address by the special guest. Input materials were also distributed to the participants as part of the programme.
The technical session featured a presentation on “Production Technologies of Tuber Crops” by Dr VS Santhosh Mithra. Another session on “Tropical Tuber Crop Protection: Major Pests, Diseases and Their Management” was conducted by Dr Arutselvan, Senior Scientist, ICAR-RCCTCRI, Bhubaneswar.
The sessions provided participants with technical information on both crop production and crop protection, covering key aspects relevant to improving tuber crop cultivation and managing production-related challenges.
The programme concluded with a lunch followed by a field visit, providing participants an opportunity for practical exposure related to the subjects covered during the training.
The programme was part of the collaborative efforts of KVK Wokha and ICAR-CTCRI to disseminate improved technologies and technical knowledge related to tuber crop cultivation.
Around 100 participants from various villages attended the programme, which aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and understanding of improved technologies for the production and protection of tuber crops.
