EC issues notification for the second phase Newmai News Network IMPHAL| February 9 So far, sixteen candidates from various political parties have filed nominations for the ensuing 11th Manipur Assembly elections. Among the notable candidates are BJP candidate from Thangmeiband constituency, Jyotin Waikhom who filed his nomination before the Returning Officer, Imphal West while two Congress candidates—minister Govindas Konthoujam from Bishnupur constituency and sitting MLA of Nambol, Nameirakpam Loken Singh—filed their nominations. Yesterday, INC candidate candidate and Oinam MLA Oinam Ibohalbi Singh filed his nomination. Congress candidate and Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh, Lamlai MLA and INC candidate Ksh Biren and BJP candidate and former MLA Nimaichand Luwang and also filed their nomination papers to the Returning Officers. Meanwhile, the EC issued notification for the second phase of Manipur election. Last date of filing of nomination is February 17. Scrutiny will take place on February 18 while last date of withdrawal of nomination paper is February 20. Polling will take in a total of 22 constituencies in the second phase. The EC issued notification for the first phase of Manipur election February 7. Last date of filing of nomination for the first phase election is February 14 and withdrawal is February 18. In this phase, altogether 38 constituencies will go to poll. Meanwhile, the National People’s Party (NPP) released first list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Manipur election. As per the release from National NPP President and Noth East in-charge, the list of party candidates include former minister L Jayentakumar Singh, former Speaker Dr Maniruddin Sheikh and former DGP of Manipur Police Yumnam Joykumar Singh. The Lok Jana-shakti Party (LJP) also announced the first list of 11 candidates while the North East India Development Party (NEIDP), a regional party, declared list of 10 candidates for the forthcoming election yesterday.
