Sixteen schools today participated in the Inter-School Skit Competition on the theme ‘Sanitation, Substance Abuse, Technology’ organised by All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA), Kohima unit at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima.
Vineyard School won the first position, while Minister's Hill Higher Secondary School and Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School bagged second and third positions respectively.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan encouraged the students to involve in the extracurricular activities for all round development of personality. He called upon the students to differentiate the good and the bad and make the best use of technology.
He further maintained that hard work is nothing but developing things into habit. “Do not shy away from hard work. It would eventually become a habit for yourself,” he told the students. The DC also stated things may be difficult but nothing is impossible if one has proper plan.
He urged the students to make best use of the opportunity coming their way and at the same time have a plan in life and start working towards it to excel.
ANPSA Central president Bithungo Kikon in his speech expressed belief that today in Nagaland, God is looking for people who will not bow down to idols: idol of money, idol of corruption, idol of nepotism, tribalism etc.
“Today our education system is second to none in the country. We are proud of our achievement academically,” he said. However, he questioned, despite our achievement academically, “why are our roads full of pothole, why are our bridges breaking down, why are we suffering from power cut, lacking in water supply etc.” There is a need to retrospect and introspect ourselves, he asserted.
Kikon said one reason may be “we are more focused only on the knowledge aspect of learning and we forget the love aspect- the aspect to love God and the aspect to love people because it is only love that will build us up. It is only love for God, love for people that will build up Nagaland.”
Also informing that more than 75% of children population are studying in private schools, he said it is not only a thing to be proud of and challenged the teachers that “more children means more responsibilities.”
Kikon also said that ANPSA is providing employment to 15,000 to 20,000 people and serving the society.
He congratulated Kohima unit of ANPSA for organizing the skit competition, adding that through such platform children can mould their skills, develop their personality. Such event, he said, will help the children compete in any competition apart from the book knowledge.
Judges for the competition were Dr. Joyce, Mele Pucho, Sanen Kichu and Kariuganhliu Kamei Koza.
