Tigris crowned champions at Patkai Christian College Sports Week

Chümoukedima, March 7 (MExN): The 50th edition of the Annual Sports Week at Patkai Christian College concluded on March 7 after six days of sporting competitions and active student participation under the theme “Confluence: Art and Athletic.”

Held from March 2 to 7, the event witnessed students from the five houses—Tigris, Jordan, Pishon, Gihon and Euphrates—competing in a wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting events organised by the college’s Sports Committee in collaboration with the Student Council and student volunteers.

Outdoor events included high jump, long jump, javelin throw, shot put, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, kabaddi, tug of war, weightlifting, arm wrestling, physique competitions and push-up contests. Track events such as the 1200m, 800m, 400m and 100m races, along with relay races, were among the highlights of the week-long programme.

Indoor games including badminton, carrom, chess and table tennis also drew strong participation from students representing the different houses.

Throughout the competitions, participants demonstrated discipline, resilience and sportsmanship, while students enthusiastically cheered for their respective houses, adding to the festive atmosphere of the sports week.

This year’s edition also introduced new events such as weightlifting and push-up contests, which added fresh excitement to the programme, informed a press release from the college. 

Dean of Students Wetshete Thopi noted that the new competitions brought renewed energy to the sports week and that students responded with considerable interest.

While acknowledging that there is always scope for improvement, he expressed satisfaction with the overall outcome of the event, estimating its success rate at around 80 to 90 percent.

Vice President Viliezo Dino also expressed appreciation to the organisers, participants and sponsors for their contributions to the successful conduct of the event.

At the end of the week-long competitions, Team Tigris emerged as the overall champions, while Pishon secured second place and Euphrates finished third.
