Commission outlines reforms, digital push and future plans
Kohima, September 22 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav held a review meeting with officials of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) at Lok Bhavan, Kohima on September 22, during which the Commission apprised him of its functioning, examination activities and future plans.
The NPSC officials gave an overview of the Commission's history, organisational structure, manpower position and functioning, according to a press release issued by PRO Lok Bhavan Nagaland. The presentation also highlighted its examination activities, departmental promotion committee meetings, ongoing initiatives, achievements, challenges and future plans.
The Commission informed that during 2025–2026, it conducted examinations for various services, including the Nagaland Civil Services and Allied Services Examination, NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Medical Services Examination, Technical Services Examination and Stenographer Examination. The NCS & Allied Services Examination recorded 16,433 applications, while the NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination recorded 5,813 applications.
The meeting also covered the functioning of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). From April to August 2026, the Commission cleared a total of 444 cases, comprising 163 promotion cases and 281 regularisation cases.
The NPSC highlighted several initiatives undertaken to strengthen its examination system, including revision of syllabi and examination patterns for NCS, NPS and allied services, with emphasis on aligning the examinations with evolving standards and strengthening assessment of candidates' analytical ability, general awareness and administrative aptitude. It also outlined the revised syllabus and examination pattern for the Combined Technical Services Examination.
On the technology front, the Commission said the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had awarded it a certificate of appreciation for integrating recruitment portals with DigiLocker, making Nagaland the first State in the North Eastern India and the third State in India to implement both DigiLocker and eSign models, advancing paperless governance and digital public service infrastructure.
The challenges highlighted during the meeting included the increasing number of candidates appearing for examinations, resulting in a shortage of suitable examination centres, as well as the need for additional manpower and larger examination facilities. The Commission also noted the need to strengthen its staff and examination infrastructure to meet the growing requirements.
Looking ahead, the NPSC outlined plans for the conduct of three tier examinations for Combined Technical Services, submission of requisitions through online departments and construction of an examination hall at the NPSC complex.
The review meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the Commission’s functioning and its ongoing efforts to strengthen recruitment and examination processes in the State, the release added.
