Venuzo Dawhuo emerges champion

The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) today conducted 17th Hornbill International Naga Wrestling Championship 2024 at Chiechama village as part of the 25th edition of Hornbill Festival 2024.
Venuzo Dawhuo emerged the champion and received a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 while runner- up Venu Vadeo got Rs. 50,000.
Semi finalists Kezhaseluo Pienyü and Vemele Thingo received Rs. 10,000 each.
Under 90 Kg & Below category, Seyiejalie Gwirie bagged champion title and received Rs. 30,000 while runner-up Thuputha Hesuh received Rs. 20,000.
Semi finalists Neikerhezo Zhünyü and Vevokho Ruho pocketed Rs. 10,000 each.
Keneiselie Khawakhrie emerged the champion title in 75 Kg & Below category and received Rs. 30,000 while runner up Rokuokehie Khawakhrie received Rs. 20,000.
Semi finalists Kuluvezo Soho & Nlumrai have been awarded with Rs. 10,000 each.
Altogether, 40 wrestlers joined the championship.
Earlier, Jigme Thinlye Namgyal, Consul General, Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, Guwahati, Kingdom of Bhutan graced the event as the special guest in the presence of Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other dignitaries.
Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland and vice president Athletics Federation of India shared greetings.
NWA technical secretary Vekhriyi Chiizho administered oath to the wrestlers.
The inaugural programme was chaired by NWA publicity secretary Er. Seyielhouvi Nagi while welcome address was delivered by NWA general secretary Kenlum Hemang.
Mentionably, the meet was sponsored by Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
