Wokha, April 14 (DIPR): The 17th Edition of the Lotha Students’ Union Martyrs’ Trophy started today at Local Ground Wokha, with Director for Land Resources, Government of Nagaland, Mhathung Yanthan as the chief guest. All together 12 teams are competing for the trophy.
Addressing the inaugural function, the chief guest reminded the student community that student life is very short and as such urged them to make best use of every hour to learn as much as possible. He also encouraged them to target goals, be more focused, and sincere to become good leaders and responsible citizens.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, A. Robin Lotha who also spoke on the occasion, urged the players and students not just to play the game but to have one mind, one sentiment as the game was a mark of paying tribute to the departed souls who made supreme sacrifices for the welfare of the students’ community. He also lauded the LSU for remembering the departed soul in the form of sports and wished them success in achieving their aspirations.
Short speech was delivered by President, Wokha District Football Association, Edward Ngullie and Father of Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung.
KSU President, Amos Odyuo, gave a brief on the significance of organizing the tournament. The KSU organises this tournament annually in memory of Lt. Thungkhomo Ezung and Lt. Chumdamo Tungoe who were killed on April 14, 1977 during a rally organised by the Lotha Students’ Union to protest against the inhuman act of the Assam Police in manhandling the then SDO (C) Ralan.
