Urban Jungle, a private security based in Dimapur, held its first passing out ceremony on April 27. The programme was held at its office in Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market) on April 27 evening, where the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, was the guest of honour. The first batch comprised of 18 trainees, including three women.

In his speech, Jaiswal emphasized the need for sincerity and commitment in order to succeed in life. He also pointed out that innovative solutions or ventures like Urban Jungle would be one of many private initiatives necessary to combat unemployment in the state.

Unlike in the past, he said that Nagaland today has alternative opportunities of which the youth can take advantage of. According to him, the state government sector as an employment avenue is “saturated” but “Today, there are opportunities available.”

“There is no question of lack of ability, the question is sincerity and commitment,” he said while stating that for livelihood, a person has to face situations irrespective of difficulty. “We tend to lose interest, give up easily. It should not be. Solution to unemployment is innovative solutions like this. I believe after passing out from here, you'll be an asset to society. Moreover, it also enhances personality development.”

He cited his own personal experience of working in Nagaland as a new administrative officer. “When I first came here, I was also in culture shock. But I was able prevail.”

Maj (retired) Vikuto Asumi, in his speech, talked about the inspiration behind Urban Jungle. After retiring from the army, he said that he wanted to impart and inculcate the professional values and skills he learned in the army through the venture. He said that the idea was to encourage and enable the youths to become productive. According to him, he found that many youths were “loitering around” hardly indulging in productive activities without discipline. He said, “Here in our agency, we are training them in combat skills and survival skills.” Asumi's vision for Urban Jungle is to create a disciplined and skilled workforce that can contribute to society in meaningful ways.

The start-up is a collaborative venture between Asumi and Arkadeep Halder, a former STF officer of the Assam Police.
