Angami wrestler Kezhavizo Thevo is champion

22 years Kezhavizo Thevo today emerged as the champion of the 1st Chakhesang Open Wrestling 2019 organized by Chakhesang Wrestling Association here at Pfutsero Sports Complex in Phek district.
Son of Neile-o Thevo of Chedema village under Kohima district, Kezhavizo downed Mudotü Veswüh in the final bout to emerge the coveted champion title.
Thevo, standing 5’10 and weighing 98 kg walked away with a cash prize of Rs.1,20,000 along with citation.
Runner-up Mudotii Veswüh (20 years), son of Dikhamu Veswiih from Süthozu Nasa of Phek district pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 80,000.
21 years Veniizo Vadeo, son of Pukrociiyi Vadeo from Porba village of Phek district overpowered Putuzo Keyho to take the 3rd position and pocketed a cash Rs 40,000 sponsored by Pfutsero ADC office staff.
4th place Putuzo Keyho (26 years), son of Lt. Nuchisa Keyho from Phek received Rs 20,000 sponsored by Traders’ Union Pfutsero Town.
Earlier, gracing the inaugural function, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) vice president and Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) former president Neikhrolo Khalo informed that Naga style wrestling have been approved as the state sports.
However, formal announcement is yet to be made.
Khalo appreciated the present PDA government for its seriousness to promote sports in the state.
He said that a new state sports policy is about to be framed in the line with reservation quota for sports persons.
Altogether, 63 wrestlers participated in this wrestling meet.
