DIMAPUR, JULY 18 (MExN): Public College of Commerce (PCC) and NIT Nagaland registered wins on the second day of the ongoing Inter College Champions Trophy played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium on July 18.

In the first match, JN Aier College, electing to bat first, set a target of 90 runs losing all wickets in the 19th overs. Skipper Ikumba who scored 16 runs emerged as the only notable contributor on the bat. PCC’s Hriday took 3 wickets while Saurav, Banti and Vijay took 2 wickets each. Chasing the target, PCC reached the 90 runs mark losing just 2 wickets in 12.2 overs and winning the match by 7 wickets. For PCC, Deepak Gond, who was also named as Man of the Match, made 46 runs while Abhishek scored 21 runs. Oren and Zhimoto accounted for the two wickets fall.

In the second match, St Joseph University won the toss and send NIT to bat first. NIT managed to score 236/5 in 25 overs. Yuvraj Kumar top scored with 96 runs while Deepankal scored an unbeaten 58 runs. For SJU, Sulanthung finished with 2/38 in 5 overs and Kitiki took 1/51 in 4 overs.

Chasing the mammoth target, SJU got off to a poor start losing their opening batsman in the first over itself. Starting the fight after the early set back, Sulanthung’s inning of 43 runs and Mhachan and Prince with 24 runs looked optimistic. But chasing a target of 236 turned out to be a tough cookie. SJU managed to score only 152/7 in 25 overs and lost the match by 84 runs. Satyapal Yadav picked 2 wickets while Sami and Ganta took a wicket each. Yuvraj Kumar of NIT Chumukedima was declared the Man of the Match.

At Sovima Cricket Ground, Dimapur Government College (DGC) electing to bat first got off to a poor start with the opener back to the pavilion without a single run. However, a brilliant knock by Alok Sharma (82 runs), Suraj Sharma with 57 runs and Akash, 45 runs collected a 237 runs in 25 overs for Tetso College to chase.

In the run chase, Tetso College never looked in for the win as the wickets fell at regular intervals. Elow Nelina with 18 runs and Yhumkenye Tep with 42 runs were the only batsmen who put up some resistance before they were bundled out for 111 runs in 21.2 overs. Man of the Match was awarded to Alok Sharma.

The second match between Salt Christian College (SCC) and Unity College turned out to be a thriller.  Opting to field after winning the toss, SCC restricted Unity College for 120/5 in 25 overs. Unity College got off to a great start with openers, Shabib Akhter 16 runs and Prakash Mahela 24 runs shared a respectable 38 runs partnership before the former was bowled out by Martin. However, a disciplined SCC bowling unit made it tough for the Unity bating lineup to set a high target. Somi Yimchunger with 15 runs, Md Shakir Ahmed with 19 runs and Anurag Gupta 11 runs also added useful numbers to the runs tally.

In the run chase, SCC narrowly managed to reach the target in 24.1 overs losing 6 wickets. Shabib Akhter scalping 3 wickets and Vishnulana 2 wickets showed high promise of a win for Unity College. However, brilliant knocks from Martin 36 runs and Karan 19 runs turned the table as they managed to reach the target in the first ball of the last over. Playing in the middle line-up, Dip Borah captain’s knock of 24 runs (18 balls) also contributed to their win. Man of the Match was awarded to Martin.
