Imphal | March 18 : The conglomerate of scribes under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) has today opened the 1st All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union Sports Meet, 2011, at Khuman Lampak main stadium.
The torch rally marking the first ever five-day sporting meet of the journalists was flagged off at 8 am today by Youths and Sports (YAS) minister N Biren from Press Club near here which wounded its way to the main stadium in Khuman Lampak.
MLA Thongju and president of Manipur Olympic Association Bijoy Koijam graced the opening function today as chief guest in the presence of several functionaries and members of the scribe union. He said that it was encouraging to see scribes abandoning pen and paper momentarily and getting in the outfield to learn some discipline through sports.
President of AMWJU Khogendro Khondram expressed the objective of the meet saying that the basic reason for such an event is to learn discipline through sporting events which is why the Union has decided to hold sporting extravaganza in various discipline annually.
