
Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): Mughaho Awomi emerged as the Champion in open category while Kunvuto Awomi of Coraggio School Kohima bagged the Under-16 title in the 1st Sumi All Nagaland Online Open Chess Tournament 2020.
The tournament under the banner of Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) was held on September 4 from 7-8:30 PM on Internet Chess Server, LICHESS. The time format followed was 3+0 Blitz. SCAN President Ikiho Rochill opened the tournament
All together 41 players participated for different categories and the youngest participant off the tournament was 8-years-old Jititho Nyekha, informed a press release from SCAN Secretary Mughato Kibami.
The tournament also accorded best female players tag to Shabnam Singh and Muzivolu Veswu while Hekugha Yeptho, Itokhu Sumi and Bovito Yeptho were also recognised as the 3 best Sumi players.
Prizes were given up to 15th position in the open category and 7th position in the U-16, the release said, adding that all the best players also received the cash prizes. The prizes were sponsored by Synergy System, Dimapur; Shre Hanuman Traders; Hari Ram Bala Ram; and Kiran Sports Dimapur.
Meanwhile, the SCAN congratulated all the winners and participants of the tournament. It further lauded Bovito Yeptho for bringing laurels to the Chess Community of Nagaland in general and to the SCAN in particular by winning the coveted 100th edition of the COVID-19 Checkmate online International Open Chess Tournament conducted by CEDS Telimura, Tripura on Augsut 28.
The Association Nagaland also expressed gratitude to the Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) for giving the platform for organising the event.
