Mokokchung | February 24 : Two men died on the spot while another two were seriously injured after the car they were traveling in skidded off the highway and went down a gorge some 100 feet. The Maruti 800, navy blue, did not bear any registration number and it is learnt that the car was ‘under repair’. All four occupants were from Ungma village, all in their middle ages. Bystanders said that the car was traveling from Mokokchung town towards Ungma village along the NH 61 when the accident occurred. The car after skidding off the highway landed at the Police Station II road, Marepkong, Mokokchung which runs below and parallel to the highway. The accident occurred at around 7:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Imkongkumzuk, s/o late Tsukjemtemjen and Imtineken s/o Tinukumba, while the two injured were identified as Talisosang s/o Imkongakum and Taliyangba Pongen s/o Imtimayang Pongen. Onlookers said the two survivors were occupying the rear seats.
According to police sources, the bodies of the two deceased were handed over to relatives while the injured two were rushed to Dr.Imkongliba Memorial Hospital, Mokokchung.
